Financial Controller - Geely Auto UK
The Financial Controller will be responsible for managing the financial accounting operations of the company by ensuring timely and accurate reporting, and compliance with UK statutory and regulatory frameworks. This is a hands-on senior role requiring a proactive, detail-oriented individual with strong technical accounting expertise.
The role will provide technical assistance to key stakeholders, enabling them to analyse and report on significant business risks.
Main Responsibilities
• Ensure compliance with applicable Accounting Standards and reporting requirements in the UK and any other relevant markets.
• Maintain regulatory compliance with UK governmental and other regulatory bodies (e.g. Companies Act, Office for National Statistics).
• Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards under UK GAAP (FRS 102).
• Prepare and submit annual statutory accounts.
• Manage the month-end close process and prepare/submit monthly accounts, including submission to Group within allocated timelines each month.
• Act as a regular point of contact for the Geely Group Accounting team and supply key information to them in a timely manner.
• Assist the Deputy Director – Finance with annual budgets and monthly rolling forecasts, including key P&L items, balance sheet, and cash flow.
• Manage insurance renewals for the business.
• Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled accurately on a monthly basis.
• Own labour cost budgets in partnership with HR.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring accuracy and proper management by our outsourced partner.
• Work in partnership with internal and external auditors to maintain strong systems of internal control, including budgetary, reconciliation, authorisation, and asset controls.
• Lead and manage audit engagements to ensure delivery on time and within budget.
• Support the Deputy Director – Finance in ensuring high standards of financial control, accuracy, and compliance across the company.
• Maintain adequate books and records.
• Become a SAP super-user and manage the general ledger and asset register, including the chart of accounts.
• Continuously review and update financial IT systems to improve efficiency and controls.
• Create and update process and procedure manuals.
• Provide internal professional accounting guidance and advice, particularly on technical accounting areas such as revenue recognition, business combinations, and deferred taxation.
• Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop staff on a permanent or temporary basis as required.
• Assist with cash management, including review and approval of payments as needed.
• Deliver month-end responsibilities to tight deadlines set by the Geely Group.
• Work closely with the finance business partnering team to ensure clear, transparent information flow and accurate, timely financial reporting.
• Influence internal stakeholders to adopt best practice processes, whether new or existing.
Education, Training, and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or above in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related discipline (desirable).
• Qualified professional accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
• Post-qualification experience in a relevant role.
• Experience with systems, processes, and controls within a subsidiary of a global group.
• Knowledge of best practice in governance, internal control, risk management, and compliance (highly desirable).
• Preferably experienced in the automotive industry.
• Proven experience in establishing and monitoring controls, policies, and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to support sound decision-making and ensure the Finance Team operates efficiently and effectively.
